Welcome to Northbank, Marlborough

The Thirty One Rows vineyard is as rich in fertile soil as it is in history, located on an old alluvial gold-mining route near the Wakamarina Valley, home to a significant gold rush in 1984.

The Northbank hills are characterised by spring and autumn fog that drifts down the valley and into the Thirty One Rows vineyard. As the morning sun heats the cool mountain valleys, the evaporation process begins. These conditions have formed the perfect environment for land regeneration with over 2000 plants reintroducing a vibrant native flora and fauna. Tūī, Korimako/Bellbird, Kererū/Wood Pigeon, Kōtare/Sacred Kingfisher. The Parekareka/Spotted Shag and the Paradise shelduck have taken up residence and we have seen many eels and smaller native fish in the small lake we have regenerated.

With bees pollinating and producing honey nearby and schist, quartz, alluvium gravels and small deposits of clay forming the unique foundations of the vineyard, the unique location offers an incredible “terroir”, unlike anywhere else in Marlborough.

Some would call it paradise.
